Have You Talked About the Unplugged Canada Initiative at Home?

As part of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re encouraging families to have honest conversations about smartphones, social media, and mental well-being.

Have you considered whether a smartphone is the right choice for your child right now?

Have you talked openly about the impact social media can have on young people—on their self-esteem, sleep, focus, and relationships?

The Unplugged Canada initiative encourages families to consider delaying smartphones with access to internet browsers and social media until at least age 14—a growing movement that prioritizes connection, safety, and mental health.

What do you think about waiting?

Start the conversation at home and see where it leads. Every family is different—and every thoughtful conversation makes a difference.

Let’s Talk About Screen Time

Did you know that too much screen time can make it harder to sleep well, concentrate in school, and even feel emotionally balanced?

This week during Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re encouraging families to talk together about how screen time affects our bodies and minds.

How does it feel when you’ve been on a screen for too long?

Do you feel tired, grumpy, or distracted?

Taking time to reflect as a family helps build awareness and encourages healthier habits.

Check out this tip sheet for healthier screen time—full of simple strategies to create more balance and mindfulness with technology.

This week, as part of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re encouraging families to create a screen-free plan together.

What kinds of activities are on your list?

How does it feel to put the screens away and truly connect?

Whether it’s outdoor adventures, creative projects, board games, or simply enjoying time together without digital distractions, every small step helps build a more mindful and balanced relationship with technology.

Looking for something to do tonight? Go outside and play in the yard at Adam Beck!

How many school friends do you think you’ll see there?

Take some time this week to talk as a family and make your plan.

https://screenfree.org/project/…

What’s on your list—and how will you make it count?
