The Equity Committee is a group of Adam Beck parents and caregivers who look for ways to make Adam Beck more equitable for all students.
Some of the things we have planned:
- Booking speakers on equity topics that interest parents/caregivers and families, such as talking to kids about race and racism
- Sharing information about equity-related topics through Facebook, the outdoor council display boxes and the school council website (for example, see a list of resources here and a list a kids’ books here)
- Ensuring a small part of our council budget goes to support a school or school council with fewer fundraising resources than Adam Beck
- Working with the school to purchase more diverse books for classrooms, especially those by Black authors, Indigenous authors and other authors of colour.
