Protect the Environment

Adam Beck students are passionate about protecting our environment!

Our students in every grade have been working for years to reduce waste, save energy and protect animals. Our students are deeply concerned about how pollution is affecting our planet.

In the BeachMetro news, Feb. 19th story by Mr. Nagy, our grade 6 student Jimmy L. spoke for all our students when he said “The world can’t afford to not have every kid be an environmentalist…It starts with the little people but the really big people like the prime minister have to get into it too. If you don’t take care of the earth there is nothing left.”

This March Break we will be at the Fridays For Future Climate Strike on March 15th. Adam Beck families are welcome to join us with their children to show them a positive way to stand up for what they believe in and make their concerns known to our government and those in power.

Many of you may have been hearing about the urgency of fighting Climate Change in the news over the last 3 months since the release of The Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C by the IPCC. (The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the UN body for assessing the science related to climate change. ) Since that time, the news has also been covering how a 16 year old Swedish student named Greta Thunberg has started a worldwide student movement  with children of all ages to get governments and adults to take action on climate change. Greta has spoken at the UN Climate Change meeting in Poland and  this week at the EU Commission on Climate Change. Thousands of students worldwide have joined her Fridays For Future movement to get those in power to make the climate changes needed so that their future will not be filled with mass extinctions. Here in Toronto students of all ages have met at Queen’s Park three times to show adults that they too are deeply concerned with the current state of our planet.

FridaysforFuture March 15 Climatestrike

March 15 12:30-2:00PM

This rally, our fourth climatestrike, will be held in solidarity with Greta Thunberg and young climate strikers around the world on March 15th. In Australia, Europe, and the U.S.A., climate strikers will be holding rallies everywhere. Let’s join them and show the world that we, too, are part of the global movement demanding urgent action on climate change.  For more march information click on the links below:
