The Adam Beck School Council fulfills the mandate of the Ontario Government to function as an advisory body making recommendations to the Principal of the school or to the Board on any matter.  We look at a variety of issues as they occur and organize things like Parent Workshops/speakers, and welcome events.  Our goal is to encourage the development of a shared sense of accountability for the public education system where educators, parents and the community each share come of the responsibility for the effectiveness of our school.

The School Council also supports the enhancement of the school experience for our children through fundraising, volunteering, and planning of community events throughout the year.

We meet on the 3rd or 4th Thursday of each month (see calendar for exact dates) from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Meetings are open to all in the Studio (except for the first meeting which is in the gym) and free babysitting is provided in the Library. If you have concerns of a school nature, School Council is a medium for helping investigate possible solutions. Items for discussion should be given to the Council Co-Chairs a week prior to each meeting to be added to the agenda. In addition, our Trustee has Ward Forums throughout the year where Board-wide matters are discussed.

School Council information is posted on https://adambeckcouncil.ca. A newsletter is sent home on a regular basis. All parents are encouraged to have a voice in the decision making process at Adam Beck and to participate in the school life of our children. By working together, we all contribute to the improvement in our schools and the success of our children.

The School Council Budget proposals submitted by parents and teachers are reviewed in May for the following school year and voted on by the Executive of the School Council. To be on the Executive, you must attend 75% of the meetings, be involved as a volunteer, and indicate your interest to be on the Executive at the Sept. or Oct. meeting.
