Grade 6 students working with local artist on legacy art project
Have you heard? Something exciting will be taking place in Grade 6 classrooms this week and next!
On June 15, 19, 21 and 22 the Visiting Artists Committee of the School Council is bringing in local artist Rob Matejka to work with all grade six classes on a legacy art project (a tradition at Adam Beck).
Rob has over 20 years experience in public art, and has done a lot of mural work in our community & throughout the GTA, working extensively with students all across Toronto. Read this article in The Star about Rob’s work with youth and watch this interview about Rob’s mural in North York.
At Adam Beck, Rob Matejka will be conducting a textile printing project with each grade six class. The students will be doing T-shirt printing with their individually designed & created stencils. Students will learn about stencil design & practice with existing stencil designs, and then produce their own stencil designs. Students will receive a demonstration on the hand-printing & silk screen printing options. Students may also share & print friends’ designs on their T-shirts, make additional T-shirts. T-shirt options will be discussed on the second day.
Please be sure your child is at school on those days, he/she won’t want to miss it! A huge thank you to the Parent School Council for supporting this initiative for our graduates!
Kind regards,
The Visiting Artists Committee
