As we continue to explore the theme of delaying smartphones and creating healthy screen habits, books can be a great way to spark meaningful conversations at home.

Here are some book suggestions to read with your child:

- Bored and Brilliant by Manoush Zomorodi (adapted for younger readers)
- Unplugged by Steve Antony
- Goodnight iPad by Ann Droyd
- Screen Time is Not Forever by Elizabeth Verdick
- If You Give a Child a Smartphone by Dr. John Duffy
- Screens Away, Time to Play by Patty Brozo
- Dot. by Randi Zuckerberg
- You’re Missing It! by Brady and Eva Toon

And some helpful reads for parents and caregivers:

- The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt
- Glow Kids by Dr. Nicholas Kardaras
- Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport
- Hold On to Your Kids by Dr. Gordon Neufeld & Dr. Gabor Maté

We hope these titles provide inspiration, insight, and opportunities for connection as we work together to support our children’s well-being in a digital world.

This week our focus is on the impacts of screens on health and well-being. In classrooms, students will be discussing the impact of social media and how to find a healthy balance with screen time.

We encourage families to continue these important conversations at home. Together, we can support our children’s well-being and help them build lifelong healthy habits.

We also invite you to consider signing the pledge to delay smartphones until age 14. We currently have 112 families on board, and we’d love to see that number continue to grow!

We’re recognizing Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week at Adam Beck from May 5–9, in partnership with our School Council Mental Health & Well-Being Committee. This year’s theme is all about delaying smartphone use with access to social media and developing healthy screen habits. Throughout the week, students will take part in daily class discussions and fun activities that help them reflect on how screens and social media affect how they feel and behave. Let’s keep the conversation going at home too! #AdambeckCares #MentalHealthWeek #HealthyScreenHabits ... See MoreSee Less
